#21 Salt Lake City and County Building

Not too many buildings in Utah are impressive by their sheer massiveness. This building is one of my favorites in Utah and it surprises me that it is not more well known as it was built by free masons to directly compete with the Salt Lake Temple as the crown jewel of the region's architecture. And it shows.

Construction began in 1891 and finished in 1894 at a cost of $900,000. It was built by a company that sounds like Harry Potter characters, Bird, Monheim, and Proudfoot.
