Quite possibly one of the worst return on investments ever in Utah, the Rio Grande Station cost $750,000 to build and was sold 66 years later for just $1.
Opening in 1911, the station cost more then twice as much as the Union Pacific Station to build. It was meant to be a grand entrance into Utah's Capitol for anyone that traveled through and was many used by people coming and going from Denver, but soon another line to San Francisco was built.
In 1977 the building was sold to the State of Utah for a buck for the intentions of preserving it's and Utah State's history.
